March 30,
2006 (Nissan 1, 5766)
Dear
Friends in Y'shua,
Happy New
Year!
(Exodus 12:2) This month shall be unto
you the beginning of months: it shall be the first month of the
year to you.
Biblical New
Year
Today is the first day of the Biblical
New Year that God established when He was about
to deliver the Israelites from Egypt. On the
fourteenth day of this new month of Nisan they were to
have an annual celebration called Pesach (Passover),
when they would kill a lamb and eat it that night as a
type of the sacrifice of Y'shua for the salvation of
mankind.
The Jews
celebrate many kinds of new years. In the
Fall they commemorate Rosh HaShana (commonly called the
Jewish New Year), but in the Bible, God called that day
the Feast of Trumpets. God is gracious
and often meets us on our level, giving us
special direction on December 31st as we go into the new
year on our Gregorian calendar. But today is the day that God
commanded for the New Year! From this day, God unfolds the prophetic
sequence of our salvation, which is typed in the
three major feast times - Pesach (Passover), Shavuot
(Pentecost) and Succot (Feast of
Tabernacles).
Yesterday, our Creator
dramatically ushered in the New Year in
Israel with an almost total solar
eclipse. Biblical New Years
and solar eclipses always happen at the time
of a new moon. A new moon makes me think
about a fresh,
pure start!
This is
also the time when Jewish people are extremely busy
cleaning their houses to get all the leaven (a type of
sin) out before Pesach. A Jewish believer
attending our prayer meeting today said that
after thoroughly cleaning her house, she felt so
good inside of herself!
Pure in
Heart
This
Shabbat, the weekly Torah reading is from the
beginning of the Book of Leviticus, which
starts by describing the requirement for the people to
purify themselves by offering sacrifices.
The first Book that the rabbis teach the young
children is Leviticus, not Genesis. Their sages
say, "Since the children are pure and the sacrifices are
pure, let the pure come and occupy themselves
with things that are pure.”
I
believe that the Bridal company has an increasing
hunger to see
God. And He has given us His
requirement:
(Matthew 5:8)
Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.
In our
time of spontaneous worship today, I saw that as
we get closer to the fulfillment of our desire to
really experience the manifest Presence and
Person of God, we will cry as Isaiah cried, "Woe is
me!"
(Isaiah
6:5) Then said I, Woe
is me! for I am
undone; because I am
a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a
people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the LORD
of
hosts.
This New
Year is God's chosen time to lay our hearts on
the altar of burnt offerings and ask the Lord for
His baptism by
fire! Why? Because we want to see
God!
Appointment in
Jerusalem
Excitement
is building as Pastor Shelley, his family and a few
people from his congregation prepare to come to
Israel next week. God willing, they will
arrive Monday, April 3rd, and depart Thursday,
May 4th. This will be the first time for
Pastor Shelley to celebrate Pesach (seder night of
April 12 - April 19), his birthday (April 28) and
Israeli Independence Day (May 3) in Israel! He is
excited!
But we are
also feeling a sense of awe and a desire to walk softly
before the Lord, especially because of the vision Pastor
Shelley had about three months ago on January 7th
while worshipping during the evening service in his
church in Alabama. He saw the Four Living
Creatures moving in a square pattern.
Suddenly they stopped, and the one with the face
of a Flying Eagle looked at him and said, "We have an appointment with you
in Jerusalem. The time draws near."
Pastor Shelley has a strong feeling that
this divine appointment will take place while he is in
Jerusalem this next month. We can
sense something building in the
Spirit!
You would
be most welcome to join us for our services if the Lord
brings you to Jerusalem! While Pastor
Shelley is here, our services will be on Saturdays and
Sundays at 10:30 AM. Send me an e-mail or
call for directions.
Please be praying that all
preparations for this trip will go smoothly, that the
children will do well on the long non-stop flight, that
all financial needs will be met and that
their time here will be blessed and they will be a
blessing. Pray that the atmosphere would be
prepared for the Lord to manifest Himself in whatever
way He chooses!
Prayer Requests - Western
Wall
Pastor
Shelley will again be happy to pray over your
prayer requests and insert them into the Western Wall in
Jerusalem. He is bringing with him the prayer
requests he has received from people who have been
blessed by his program "The Eagle's Cry" on the
satellite TV station, The Gospel Channel. He is a
very compassionate man of God who is serious about
praying for people's needs and believing for God to
answer!
If
you would like your prayer requests prayed for at the
Western Wall, write them on a very small piece
of paper (to fit in the cracks) and send them as quickly
as possible to us here in Jerusalem:

Donations Greatly
Needed!
We have
been so blessed that a few more of you have sent
offerings to help us be able to fulfill the Lord's
mandate for us here in Jerusalem! We still have a great need to meet ongoing
expenses as well as to host Pastor Shelley and his
family for this next month. He is
thanking God that some of the money for his airline
tickets has been given and is still believing
for God to bring in the rest.
If
God touches your heart to help us financially and you want to
have a part in enabling Pastor Shelley to be here
for his divine appointment, please see the box at
the end of this update for donation
instructions. Your donations will also
make it possible for me to continue to keep you updated
with what God unfolds for His Bride!
In Closing
May you
take seriously the fact that we are stepping into the
New Year that the Lord has ordained! Ask
the Lord to purify your heart so that as
you diligently seek Him, you might see
Him!
(Psalm 51:10)
Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right
spirit within me.
Blessings
from Jerusalem! Nancy Bergen
